13 Reasons Why

Cool Hues

 
   This scene in the episode portrays a serious and intense moment. There is an occurring situation, that Bryce is missing. This stirred up controversy among who may have been involved with his apparent "disappearance". Clay is known by the schools administration and police department to have ill feelings towards Bryce. They out these two situations together and they brought Clay in for questioning. In the room, the black, dull lighting surrounds Clay, creating a feel of interrogation and suspense. Blue and green hues reflect off the wall the with the dark and brown colored reflects creates a sense of awareness of being questioned and maybe accused of something. The blue hues reflect Clay's negative outlook on Bryce and future issues that could arise. Clay is also clothed in all black, adding to the overall, depressed and dull atmosphere.

Warm Hues


   Jessica is seen at the principal's office, in an over-the-shoulder shot from the principal. The window shines in a mix of white and yellow, highlighting the side of her body. The overall hue of the room is a mix of yellow. orange, and a slight tint of pink. This mix provides a mix of confidence and energy but calmness at the same time. Jessica is scolded for "influencing a riot" at the game against Bryce. She is wearing a dominantly black colored bomber jacket, contrasting her feminine blouse underneath. This gives her a feeling of dominance and superiority that compliments her confidence.

Red Hue


   This scene is drastically different in contrast to the other two. The high-key lighting casts shadows on Tony's face, creating a dark and suspenseful feeling. He is paired with his infamous black leather jacket, complimenting the power and respect he has over people. Red hues are displayed in the background and reflect on his face. This stimulates danger and energy when he is trying to find Tyler in the threat of a shooting. He is confronting Tyler, the shooter, himself. This creates anxiety and an increased pulse.

Four Sound Effects:
1. Antonia creating the sound of a door by literally opening multiple doors.
2. Footsteps were made by exaggerating stomping footsteps and placing the phonemic near the ground.
3. To create the bone-crunching (not included in the outline) we took a water bottle and quickly snapped it.
4. To create the gym squeaking we were next to the gym to get distant squeaks, but I put the phonemic close to her shoe as she tried to create squeaks. 

Commentary: 
Once Mrs. Harwell finished introducing this sound project, Keith, Antonia, and I knew immediately we wanted to incorporate the gym. We took time creating our outline, making sure to create at least four of our sounds manually. We ended up creating all of our sounds, except the buzzer at the very end, which I'm very impressed and proud of. We made some changes and added the bone-breaking crush with the water bottle. Creating the sounds wasn't difficult, it was pretty simple. We started in the locker room; since Keith obviously couldn't come to the girl's locker room Antonia and I started first. Luckily, the locker room was squeaky and it was pretty obvious that it was a door. Creating the floor squeaks was slightly difficult because only some shoes could create that sound. Antonia struggled to create the squeaks, but eventually got the hang of it. Making the sound of Antonia falling was really funny. Keith volunteered to fall, and he dramatically threw himself on the ground. We filmed a lot of background noise in the gym to depict the atmosphere of a basketball game. After Antonia fell in the audio clip, we recorded three different crowd reactions and layered them to portray a typical crowd response. We added a buzzer at the end to indicate the end of the game.
